I can vouch for that - I fell foul of that friggin' worm. I got the 60-second shutdown sequence. However, a good friend in the know gave me the following extremely useful instructions for what to do if the countdown comes up:
(1) Click 'Start' (2) Click 'Run' (3) Type 'shutdown -a'
It kills the shutdown sequence!
The first thing to do is to download the Windoze security patches. Then download and run Symantec's Sasser-Worm find'n'kill program. Then update your virus killer program and get it to do a full system scan.
Installing the security patches before killing the virus ensures that the virus doesn't re-install itself afterwards.
Always remember to check for security updates and scan your computer at least once a week.

So it's similar or the same as that Blaster Worm a few months ago, that I happened to get. Hmm I looked for the online virus scan from the Norton site, which I used to use and all I could find was the Internet Security scanner. It appears that they don't scan online anymore, unless I just couldn't see it. I think that they don't scan anymore because they want you to buy the latest version! Thankfully I havn't seemed to have gotten any viruses yet, unless I havn't noticed them. I did get a lot of what seemed to be dodgy emails/spam a while back amd I got one the other day. One I got a while back had the address of a friend (whos address is in my address book) and they said that they hadn't sent it when I asked them. The message was an attachment. My fried also had a forum which was hacked into and the hacker may have got all the addresses/ISPs and hacked into them. My friend shut down the forum, but that's before I started getting dodgy mail. They said that others had been getting dodgy mail also!

I really hate the people who make those viruses! Why can't they do something useful with their time? Well, my work place is safe as it still uses windows 95!

I'm running on Windows 98, so that's why I havn't been affected. Linux and Unix users are not affected neither. Only those running 2000 and above are affected.
