*bows head in shame* inspired by brother strange i started a book of proverbs when i was 7/8 ish back then i had 27 on my list however looking at it. neither "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" nor "man cannot live by bread alone" was on there. unsure about the second ones "proverbness"...no, it qualifies i think as it doesn't have to be taken biblicly, it can apply to any walk of life really. i'll come up with a new one...got it...got two infact ;D 1)"there will be in the present many a unintentional slide of one's foot or a revalation of of some concealed infomation through speak inbetween a container often used to house brown, caffinated, liquid and a single fleshy protruding facial feature found under the fulcrum"
2)"the upper limb dextrous device which moves back and forth a childs game involving string and two pairs of hands, minus the cat's, is the ultimate authority of a large mass of rock and iron orbiting a stellar body in 3rd position"knock thineself out upon those my dearies

what is the definition of a proverb then?
My parents and I had quite a big discussion about this but didn't come to any sort of answer at all.

correct about no.1 ...good ole shakespeare.
er...i have difficulty here to with defineing them.
a saying "conveying a msg"/"giving advice" about how to live ones life well/better is the closest i could come up with.

So far for the second one I've got a hand cradles the moon or something but I know that's not a proverb so I'm working on it!

no....i see where your going wrong. "a mass of rock and iron orbiting a stellar body in third position" should be interpreted as "a mass of rock and iron which orbits a stellar body in third position" ie - not the moon

I'm sorry I didn't find this thread sooner! Is it... the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world? A nice tribute to the power of the parent.

OK. 'It is eminently feasible for a person, to whom second person pronouns are applied, to conduct a quadruped mammal of equine extraction to the location of a body of potable and transparent liquid; however, said person is not possessed of the necessary means with which to coerce the aforesaid quadruped to imbibe the liquid mentioned above.'
