I'm kinda torn on this one.
On the one hand, it'll mean that there are less children targetted by paedophiles, which is good.
On the other hand, there are still countless non-Microsoft chat rooms and friends won't be able to talk to each other as quickly.
And I hope this doesn't include MSN Messenger - I like it! But how could it? Messenger is a downloadable program so if you have it on your PC already then you can still talk to contacts who also have it.

Well, I'm sure that private chat on Messenger will still be able to happen - it's just the chat rooms that have been removed. I like Messenger, too. You get to chat to all sorts of nice people on it. I think you can invite people to join a conversation on Messenger which would mean that more than two people can participate in a conversation. I've never tried it but that should be possible. Also, the only chat room I ever go to is the Km one. It's far too easy to run out of things to say!

I don't really use chat rooms, usually I use MSN messenger. GameGirl, I was about to start this topic myself, so I got deja-vu when I read it.
I prefer Messenger my self for the simple reason you know who you're talking too.

Phew! I didn't like the idea of being without the Messenger - it's fun because you can have a real conversation with someone and you don't have dozens of people talking all at the same time. I haven't been in KM chat yet but I keep meaning to. How mad does it get in there? Flamey, how weird is that? I suppose it's because it's a topic that loads of people are thinking about at the same time...

That's true! I don't know whether I'd be happy in a chatroom, to be honest. I prefer talking to people that I know.

I've only been in a chat room once and that was on a fan site. I didn't like it much, the conversation seemed a bit immature and there was too much "txt spk"!
I much prefer using e-mail, the Messenger and message boards to talk to people online.

That's the same as me. ;D One of the message boards I used to go on used all this text speak, and I spent ages trying to translate it into something I could understand! ;D

Lol, I take it a lot of the members were really young there? Kids seem fixated on using text language. I only understand a few words of it and it drives me mad when there's whole posts of it on sites with young teenagers on them.

Wehey, I'm back! GameGirl: Km chat is very good, really. There is very little txt speak there and there are usually only about a dozen people there maximum, plus you can have private chats with someone. To get there, go to www.knightmare.com and select Interactive. You'll be sent to the interactive Km website. Once there, select clients. I always use the jIRC client. Hope to see you there sometime.

LOL, it's off again huh. gamegirl, the scary thing was that most of the people using text speak were older than me, some of them in their thirties, or so they claimed, and the ones telling them off were younger!

haven't been on km chat for ages, must go soon (writes mental note)
I really dont see what the big problem with chatrooms is to be honest, when we first got a computer with internet access when i was about 12 i went into the aol chatrooms and yeah, i pretended to be older that i actually was sometimes and yeah, you used to get people wanting cyber sex and stuff but you just told them to 'go away' or just ignored them, it really wasn't a big deal and it was just fun to talk to people anyway regardless of whether they were actually telling the truth of who they were or not.
I think it's only a major problem when silly kids start wanting to meet up with people they dont even know and anyway if you decide to meet up with, say a 15 year old boy, you go to the meeting place and you find a 40 year old man then you just walk away dont you? Coz he doesn't know what you look like! hehe
Anyway, I've gone on far too long about this, but I just dont get what the big fuss is all about.
;D
