Right, that's it.
Thanatos:
1. You never seem to accompany your grand statements with any reason and/or justification. WHY don't you like the Sun? WHY do you call them all those names? Without proper justification (and you give NO justification at all) you are being just as vindictive as they are. This is, of course, my *opinion*. Geddit?
2. "Cobbler's" eh? Was there any need for that? Rather than shoot down another person's opinion with what looks to me like high-brow faux-intellectual snobbery (which you seem to use to excuse yourself from good manners - culminating, in this case, in both potentially belligerent language and in your reluctance to EXPLAIN your views) why not have a bash at treating fellow forum-users with the courtesy and consideration that you are obliged to show them?
MPK:
1. Again, I think you ought to be prepared to back your statements up. Where did you learn it all from? Why do you think it must be true/false? Empty argument tends either to be toothless or venomous - in this case both.
2. You have used language that some may be offended at as well. Please take into account that other people might not like it.
Both:
I don't moderate this particular board, so this is none of my business, save for me being a member of this forum who is disappointed at the conduct of a couple of the other members and is concerned that this negativity may put off other users from visiting. I therefore ask you to edit out any offensive language and to apologise publically to each other - or at least to agree to disagree.

Well I'm far from a regular here, hopefully not so un-regular i'm not a fairly familiar face though. I do think that Malefact has some good points here.
While I personally don't find the language hugely offensive (you should hear some of the people I play D&D with), I would rather not hear it on here if it can be avoided. I am slightly surprised that things have got to a stage where someone has had to register such a complaint but I agree it was necessary. Well that's my two pence on the subject anyway.

Hmm, I have to say I missed most of this, being offline for some time, however, I agree with Malefact to a certain degree that if you are going to argue/debate, do so in a reasonably friendly manner please! Having had interactions with both Thanatos and MPK, I know (hopefully) that neither of them set out to cause an arguement. Hopefully, this has all been resolved by the time I've written this, and everyone is friendly again! *hugs to everyone*

WHY don't you like the Sun? WHY do you call them all those names? This isn't April 1st. I would indeed have been worthy of all such criticism and have been entirely unjustified in not explaining my view at the first (which I did when prompted) were this a board for political debate. As it is not, I waitied, as I said, for prompting. And to accuse me in the midst of that quoted paragraph and message of "high-brow faux-intellectual snobbery" is, quite frankly, the height of hypocrisy. I therefore ask you to edit out any offensive language I shall. It won't take long, because there isn't any. and to apologise publically to each other - or at least to agree to disagree. I was not remotely offended by any of MPK's words, however much I disagreed with them, so no apology on his part is necessary. If I have inadvertently offended him, I apologise unreservedly.

(1) This isn't April 1st.
What does that mean?
(2) I would indeed have been worthy of all such criticism and have been entirely unjustified in not explaining my view at the first (which I did when prompted) were this a board for political debate. As it is not, I waitied, as I said, for prompting. And to accuse me in the midst of that quoted paragraph and message of "high-brow faux-intellectual snobbery" is, quite frankly, the height of hypocrisy.
1. You imply that there is a given etiquette for a given type of discussion forum. In doing so, you also assume that everyone knows this and that everyone knows what these different etiquettes are.
2. I stand by my "high-brow faux-intellectual snobbery" opinion. This opinion is formed of observation. I have observed you steamroll over opinions that you disagree with, with no explanation. Imo, a lack of explanation shows a lack of respect for the other person's opinion because you summarily dismiss it without saying *why* you disagree with it. Basically, I think it's rude and I think other people may think the same.
3. Why am I a hypocrit?
(3) I shall. It won't take long, because there isn't any.
In whose opinion?
(4) I was not remotely offended by any of MPK's words, however much I disagreed with them, so no apology on his part is necessary. If I have inadvertently offended him, I apologise unreservedly.
No apology to *you* is necessary, then.

Come off it. You're an intelligent person. The question, "Why don't you like the Sun?" is somewhere around the level of, "So what exactly is silly about Holocaust-deniers' arguments?" You imply that there is a given etiquette for a given type of discussion forum. You miss the point. Etiquette doesn't come into it (on the particular point to which the above remark refers). I stand by my "high-brow faux-intellectual snobbery" opinion. That, I'm afraid, is your funeral. Your messages in the topic (most uncharacteristically of you) reek with the very "high-brow faux-intellectual snobbery" you seem to perceive in mine. I have looked very carefully through my messages, and the only language that could be construed as offensive is directed at the Sun and Tony Martin, neither of whom is here to be offended. No apology to *you* is necessary, then. How sanctamonious. If he doesn't need to apologise to me, he certainly doesn't need to apologise to anyone else.

Why?

I don't mind.
(4) Your messages in the topic (most uncharacteristically of you) reek with the very "high-brow faux-intellectual snobbery" you seem to perceive in mine.
Why do you think that?
(5) I have looked very carefully through my messages, and the only language that could be construed as offensive is directed at the Sun and Tony Martin, neither of whom is here to be offended.
Are you sure?
(6) How sanctamonious. If he doesn't need to apologise to me, he certainly doesn't need to apologise to anyone else.
What about the other visitors to this forum who might be offended by the language?

Thanks for apologising to Thanatos. However, what about a third party who may have been offended at the language? A person who might have been considering joining this forum but was put off because of the hostility? 2. I'm not joking in any way. 3. Who's to decide what's ridiculous and what's not? Please consider 1. I don't want to reignite all this again. MPK, please could we talk via Instant Message, email or MSN? Thanks.
