I've just joined the main forum (I'm Opera Babe there) and when I found out there was a social forum too I decided to join 'cause to be honest, even though I AM a fan of the show, I think and talk of other things I like a lot more... Anyway, I'm surprised there doesn't seem to be any topic about The X-Factor - did anyone else watch it here? I am a huuuuuuge fan of G4 who are the most talented singers I've heard in my life (Freddie Mercury is the only other), especially Jon Ansell (the frontman), whose talent is truly God-given. Jon and the others (Ben, Matt and Mike) deserve all the success they get and believe me, it will be world-wide in time. I've heard some people who don't like their kind of singing say that they're not talented, but those people don't have ears. OK, so opera/opera style isn't everyone's cup of tea but to say that they don't have talent is totally wrong. Steve Brookstein (the winner) had no X-Factor whatsoever, he didn't deserve to win. He is in no way original and I've heard he thinks a lot of himself (unlike G4, who are extremely down to earth and humble)...and I wish he'd stop that smirking he does all the time...eew! In a few months time everyone will be like "Steve who?". One thing you should know about me is that I'm crazy about Jon and I tend to gush about him a lot...which is all the time. I'm intending to take up the challenge of meeting him then asking him out (seriously)...oh yes, he will be mine

If u look back at all the winners of these types of shows though, they only release one song and then they've gone! What happened to all the Fame Academy winners- one quit cause she couldnt take the heat, and the other "chose" to become a songwriter instead!
The only exceptions are Will Young, -and lets face it he deserves it being the first actual winner, unlike- Gareth Gates (who has disappered at the mo and noone cares), Darius (again MIA), and Rik Waller! (Of course Rik becoming legendary on Fit Club, and last seen toasting marshmallows with a cigarette lighter on Back to Reality!)
With that and the demise of Hear'today Gone'tomorrow, do u actually think that either winner would have made a big impact on the music industry?!

Steve has disappeared off the face of the planet already, lol!
Meanwhile, G4 have all this, so it doesn't matter that they didn't win:
Album out on 28th Feb, next album out by Christmas Performance in the Classical Response (tsunami) concert in the Royal Albert Hall Their video is number 1 on The Box, showing it's not just their fans that are wanting to see it. Tv/radio appearances by the dozen Brian May and Roger Taylor are fans of theirs and want to work with them! Critics give good write-ups of their performances. They have genuine talent News of them keeps coming every single day, whether it's from the TV, radio, newspapers, magazines or the internet.
I rest my case. ;D They, along with Will Young will be the only really successful artists from a reality TV show.

Personally I have a genuine disliking of manufactured bands of this day and age. The producers who put them together can only see dollar bills, they pick any old people not necessarily talented people and give them songs to "sing"!
There are only a few exceptions to these;
S-Club 7 (cause they could sing), The Monkees (the first, and possibly best manufactured band) Thats all that come to mind right now.
I think its a disgrace when u get proper bands, who write their songs, work their way up from nothing only to get a low entry in the charts because of the Fast Food Rockers or the Cheeky Girls.
One example, Creed, one of the greatest bands america ever produced, wrote their songs, won countless awards in america, produced 3 awesome albums, and when their singles entered the charts over here with a song that stayed on toip spot in america for weeks, reached no 20! Creed split up in July last year, and the cheeky girls still had their cheeky christmas, in their cheeky house, on their cheeky road, in their cheeky town! Wheres the justice?!

Rik Waller! (Of course Rik becoming legendary on Fit Club, and last seen toasting marshmallows with a cigarette lighter on Back to Reality!) Ever heard the phrase 'car crash television'? I find it a tasteless phrase, but I take its point - some TV commands your attention, against your better judgement. And Waller on Back To Reality was one such instance! He had some incredible moments, such as his rendition of Another Brick In The Wall, and being pelted with paintball pellets by his old Fit Club nemesis, and the marshmallow moment. Last I heard, Waller was part of a hoax: a tabloid contacted several celebrities, and asked them if they wanted to be part of a new reality TV show, which involved spending 2 weeks down a mine. Waller jumped at the chance (well, maybe not literally)...

G4 manufactured? Not on your nelly...the guys met at the Guildhall School of Music and formed the group there, along the way they did a bit of singing in Covent Garden. They only entered The X-Factor for a laugh, they didn't think they'd get as far as the final. And all of them are very, very, very, very talented indeed - especially Jon's, which is God-given (I mentioned that in my first post). They can write their own music, but that will be included in the second album, the first one is a rush release but is still highly anticipated. If you seriously don't know much about them, or haven't heard them sing then check out www.g4-online.co.uk You will be pleasantly surprised...

I didn't watch X-Factor until the last few episodes (I didn't really get into it, but watched as most others were watching it.). I found G4 different and entertaining and was hoping that they'd win. I think that they will last longer then Steve and Tabby as they are different and I believe appealing to I would say all ages and different type music lovers (rock, pop, opera, classical), whereas Steve is more appealing with the oldies and Tabby being another young singer has got lots of others to compete with as there are so many young groups and individual singers out there in the UK and US. G4 however sing really well together and as my mum said they compliment each other. Also how many people know at least one Queen song?

Just want to shift focus slightly back to The Mighty Rik, he also had a tour which only sold about 20 seats!!! It got cancelled! Another classic Back to Reality moment, when the kids were beating the hell out of him!! ;D

Oh yes! He didn't know how to calm them down, so he told them that 'life is about ifs and buts'. Oh dear.
Also (ah, the memories!) his argument with Jade Goody! Her comment about wanting to 'drop-kick him in his ***king extension air-head head!' sticks in the mind...

*Guiding the subject gently back on topic* And the latest news about Steve is...absolutely nothing. Why does that not surprise me? Meanwhile, G4 are everywhere...aah, the sweet smell of success *looks smug*

I have to confess, I haven't watched The X-Factor. Was the rivalry which I've heard about between Sharon and Simon genuine, or did they fake it for the cameras?

No, there was real rivalry (read: Simon vs Sharon, Simon vs Louis). I usually quite respect him, but this time he was soooooo smug about his group of contestants it sickened me Well Sharon and Louis are both having the last laugh now 'cause in a few months people will be like "Steve who?"

Of course, you can't look at him as he does it, but that's radio for you. ;D Then again, he is on the cover of the latest Classic FM magazine, apparently....
