Hi
I've been working on a Knightmare story (which I know puts me in distinguished company). It is something which doesn't seem to have been done before - a crossover between Knightmare and the science-fiction series 'Quantum Leap'. I've called the story 'Enter, Leaper'.
This looks like the right section of the forum to bring it up! So if what I've said so far is enough to get anyone interested, I'll be happy to discuss it further.
If not, fair enough...

Hi! It sounds very interesting. I've always liked the sci-fi element in Km - manifestation and all.

Thanks for your reply. I hope it justifies me giving some more info away...
For anyone who is unsure, Quantum Leap was an American series about a scientist, Sam Beckett, who is lost in time due to an experiment gone haywire. In each episode he 'possesses' someone from the past (normally an American who is alive during Sam's own lifetime), in order to right a wrong relating to their life. Once this is is done, Sam 'leaps' into a different body. His friend Al is sent back as a hologram - tuned to Sam's mind so only Sam can see and hear him - in order to help him out.
During the 5 Seasons of QL, Sam had a huge range of experiences - he got caught up in race riots; he leaped into a pregnant teenager; he fought in Vietnam; he even leaped into Elvis Presley! All in all, a very impressive series, which appealed to more than just sci-fi fans.
In my story, which I'm just finishing off, Sam leaps into the body of Motley, during Series 3 of Knightmare. He learns that he has to prevent Motley from marrying Mellisandre - but soon that becomes the tip of the iceberg...
Shall I go on?

Please do! It sounds intriguing! Have you an account on fanfiction.net? If not, I highly recommend it!

Thanks . The crossover was inspired by a Quantum Leap parody I submitted to a recent caption competition (Cartoon Shockery) on the Interactive Knightmare website. This in turn was inspired by a parody of QL on the TV series Family Guy, which is similar to the Simpsons but funnier in places (highly recommended in itself). From that has come the longest piece of creative writing I have ever written! I have set it in Series 3, as it is the series I know best. I have included several Series 3 characters - Mrs. Grimwold, Ariadne, Velda, Mogdred, Hordriss and others - and have used the original rooms and locations. The Dungeoneer who appears in the story, Sara, is fictional. I am writing the end at the moment, but since I am about to move back up to University to embark on another large piece of writing (a 20,000 word MPhil thesis!), there may be some delay in getting the story typed up. Once it is though, I'll probably register with fanfiction.net and post it there, and perhaps it qualifies for the Fan Stuff section of Knightmare.com. I'll try and get an extract up on this board within the next few weeks...

Good good, since I'm at uni I don't have as much time as I used to to work on my KM fics - I'm only part way through Are You There? but if I think hard I might be able to wangle it so that I'm already half way there. How are people liking this one, anyway? Should I bother finishing it or is it a little bit too odd for KM fiction?

If you are enjoying the writing and have the time, then keep going with it. It is a great honour to Knightmare that it is being kept alive, and providing inspiration, in so many ways. I've skimmed through part of Are You There?, so I shouldn't comment in depth until I've read it properly. But it looks well-written. Please could you give a summary/ introduction to the story? Is it strongly connected to the RPG filming (I felt like I was missing something with the new characters)?

it is vaguely connected via characters, but nothing else...and some characters are my own

Here is an extract from 'Enter, Leaper'. This scene takes place late in the story. Please excuse any typing errors. ' The next corridor gave way to a blackened, angular chamber. The far wall was emblazoned with a writhing mural of a snake-haired face – Medusa. Sam couldn’t help looking straight at her as he entered, but the cursed eyes weren’t staring at him. He followed their gaze to a beautiful woman with a majestic gold-webbed headdress and dominatrix-black robes. Her manifest fairytale queenliness was compromised by the fact that she was kneeling on the elaborate patterned floor, her legs and arms immobilised with a misty, grey colouration. ‘Statuesque’ was an ironic summary. Accounting for the anxiety on her face, so was ‘petrified’. She turned her neck painfully, and trying in vain to sound imperious, called out to Sam. After some hesitation, he moved closer to her. “This… is their doing,” she choked contemptuously, as if her throat were frozen too. She inhaled. “Mogdred… and his pretentious little familiar. They rejected alliance with me… claiming I would undermine them, betray them to my brother’s old advisor.” Sam picked over his recollection of Celtic myth again. Could this woman be an incarnation of the enchantress Morgan Le Fey, treacherous half-sister and repentant pall-bearer of King Arthur? Either way, she had fallen foul of an altogether greater sorcery. “Together, they have empowered the Gorgon, and imprisoned me here. She is focused entirely on me. I can do… nothing.” She shut her eyes, against an onslaught of either pain of impotent rage. “I urge you to proceed, and use whatever means you possess… to disrupt their plans.” Her voice had taken on a plaintive waver that seemed to surprise her. “If… the balance of power is restored, I give my word that I, Morghanna, will never trouble a Dungeon phase again.” Sam mumbled his assent and hurried to the door. Just before he departed, Morghanna raised her head. “Mogdred’s intentions towards the Maid are… dishonourable. Go!” ' I hope that wasn't too painful!

... Any opinions or questions on the story are welcome. Shall I post some more?
(By the way, is the Knightmare school going to include Creative Writing lessons - riddle composition, spell scripting?)

It's well-written! Very good structure and excellent use of language. Good use of descriptives to describe how a person is speaking, rather than merely saying "he said" all the time. I'm sure we'd all love to read more.

It is a generous offer; but I'm afraid I can't relocate from my current educational post at the moment. Perhaps in the next phase of the school...? Then again, you are eminently qualified to take a Creative Writing class or two yourself. You could make it an on-off lunchtime activity.
